Random Acts of Kindness Day

On this Random Acts of Kindness Day, I’ve been thinking about how the most simple, unexpected kindnesses can lift us up … shift the focus from our woes … to bring us joy, delight and hope.

Like one day last spring, early in this pandemic. Everything was so unknown, unsettling, so … different. And scary.

I was out on my local trail and saw a flash of bright color ahead. It was a beautifully painted rock with an uplifting message. As I walked along, I found another … then another. It was as joyful as an Easter Egg Hunt (but without the calories)!

What a lovely, memorable walk this would turn out to be! And my spirits? They were lifted by the messages of each uniquely painted rock, and by the care that a stranger took to spread love
and kindness to anyone that would walk along the trail.

And this unknown someone inspired others! In the coming days, I saw additional rocks (painted in a different style) pop up along the trail … widening the ripple of kindness, encouragement,
and hope.

Since then, I’ve learned about the delightful Megan Murphy who sparked a global movement with #TheKindnessRocksProject. (Link in first Comment.) And I’ve met others who inspire through painted rocks.

Random … yet Intentional … Kindness. BEAUTIFUL.
